History of Peugeot Compony

لوگو پژو

There is almost no one in the world who has not heard of the Peugeot brand. This popular French brand forms a large part of the automotive industry and plays an essential role in it. The part of this business, which was founded in 1810 and ended up as the current Peugeot, had nothing to do with the carmaker because it produced Saab coffee. Another part of it was in the field of bicycle manufacturing. It was Emile Peugeot who chose the lion symbol for their business, but the person who built the first car was none other than Armand Peugeot.

Armand Peugeot

It is interesting to know that the origin of the Peugeot family and their business goes back to Soshu, and currently a very large industrial land and the Peugeot Museum in this area belong to this family.

The Peugeot brand has won many international honors over time. این کمپانی شش مرتبه برنده جایزه خودروی اروپایی سال شد. Another important achievement is related to environmental protection. In 2013 and 2014, this company was the second brand whose products had low emissions and produced a small amount of carbon dioxide, after its rival Renault. The products of this beloved brand are so reliable that models from the 1950s and 1960s are still used in countries like Cuba and Africa. This brand is nicknamed “The Lion” in these countries.

For more than a decade, this company has a wide and active presence in car racing. Peugeot Sport Group won the World Rally Championship five times. He was also able to win many honors in other famous competitions.

History of the Peugeot brand

The business of the Peugeot family began in the 19th century. In 1984, they added pepper, salt and coffee production to their business. In fact, Peugeot opened its doors to the automobile industry by producing skirt springs, umbrella frames, saw blades, wheel wires, and bicycles. Armand was very creative in making all kinds of bicycles. So in 1882, he produced a bicycle that had a very large front wheel and a small rear wheel. The name of this product was Le Grand Bi. Of course, besides this product, other types of bicycles were also produced by him.

The company logo was not like this from the beginning. At first, he showed me a lion walking on a pole. This design showed the speed, strength and flexibility of the ax blades of this factory.

Little by little, Armand became interested in manufacturing and vehicles, and after meeting Gottlieb Daimler and some other geniuses of that time, he was sure of his decision. The first vehicle of this brand was a tricycle powered by steam. This product was designed by Léon Serpolt and as mentioned earlier, it was produced by Armand Peugeot.

Only four models of this product were produced in 1989. Unfortunately, using this vehicle was not that easy, because the steam generator was very heavy and needed a long time to heat up. After a year passed and a reunion with Daimler and another person named Emile Lavasseur, this model was left behind. Armand decided to use an internal combustion engine instead of steam to produce his next product. این موتور تحت لیسانس کمپانی پانارد (Panhard) و زیر نظر دایملر ساخته شده بود. As a result, a very clever product was created, which after some time was exported to Brazil by Alberto Santos-Dumont. Then business took off and more models were produced one after another. It may be interesting to know that Peugeot was the first company to use rubber tires to build a gasoline car.

A few years passed and in 1896, Peugeot started making its own engines because it no longer wanted to be dependent on Daimler. The first engine that was produced had only eight horsepower. In the same year, Armand separated from his partners and established his own factory under the name of Audincourt. The entire focus of this newly established factory was only on car production.

It was in 1901 that the Peugeot company decided to add motorcycles to its production line. Right from the same year until today, motorcycles are produced under the name of this company and they have many fans all over the world.

After six years, the company’s first six-cylinder engine was produced, and the famous French carmaker Tony Huber joined the company as an engine manufacturer. In 1910, another factory was added in Soshu, and in 1928, it became the main center of the brand.

After the Second World War, which had destructive effects on all kinds of industries in different countries, this company started its activities and productions with the 202 model in 1946. Almost 14 thousand units of this model were produced. The following year, the 203 model was introduced, which is considered one of the memorable honors of this company. This model broke the sales record of other company products and continued to be produced until the 60s.

In the 70s, this company had become so strong that it bought 30% of the shares of the popular company Citroën. In 1975, the entire company was owned by Peugeot. With this, Citroen was saved from the risk of bankruptcy and destruction.

In 2019, PSA Group, which is now an important part of Peugeot, announced that it will return to the American market. Also, a contract was signed in 2020 between this company and Fiat Chrysler. According to this agreement, these two important companies will establish the Stellantis brand with the help of each other.
